Stardew Valley: How to Fish and Attach Bait
Tackle does not stack in inventory or chests; each tackle takes up one inventory slot. You must have an Iridium Rod to equip tackle. To attach the tackle to the rod, right-click on the tackle first and then right-click the Iridium Rod. This recipe is learned from Linus once you’ve earned four friendship hearts with him. It gives you the chance of catching two fish at once.
After this, the rod will become unlocked, and you buy it from Wily’s fish shop down on the beach in pelican town for 1800k gold. It should be said that you need the level 2 rod to attach bait and the iridium rod to use the bobbers/spinners, etc. The ocean next to the beach area provides the greater chance of getting a fish to bite. Everywhere else has an increased chance of trash. Different bait and tackle as well as rod upgrades will help with your fishing endeavor. Once the bob is in the water, you need to wait until it rumbles, there’s a specific noise, and your character has an exclamation point above their head.
You can only start using bait with the Fiberglass Rod or the Iridium Pole which is purchasable from the Fish Shop eventually. Tackle is only equippable on the Iridium Pole. Like Stardew Valley’s regular bait item, different types of tackle can be bought from Willy’s shop as you level up. Naturally, you unlock the ability to craft the majority of these on the same level they become available in the shop, though a few are shop-exclusive. In general it seems better to buy them than to craft them, especially in the case of items like Treasure Hunter tackle unless you’re swimming in Gold bars. Lead Bobber – Stops the bar bouncing when it hits the bottom of the frame during the fishing minigame.
The fishing bar can be moved manually while a Barbed Hook is in use, although it is more difficult, especially with slower fish. The more the fish darts up and down, the easier it is to move the fishing bar manually, and the less effective the Barbed Hook is. To attach tackle to an Iridium Rod, left-click on the tackle, then right-click on the Iridium Rod. To remove tackle, first right-click to remove any bait, then right-click to remove the tackle. Treasure hunter – Increases the chance of treasure chests appearing by 1/3 (meaning 20% total chance). These are crafted for 2 gold bars or bought for 750G from Willy.
Not sure why some people apparently can’t attach bait to Fiberglass though. You don’t happen to be trying to apply the bait in the shop interface or a container interface, do you? If you are, try doing it just from your regular inventory view and see if that works.
