This is a perfect time for beginners or to take someone out that’s never fished before. It’s fun – some of my happiest memories are going fishing with my grandparents. After Melissa came along, and was old enough, she tagged along too. June are Free Fishing Days in Oklahoma, when a fishing license is not required to fish. According to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, ODWC, Oklahoma’s free fishing days will be June 4-5. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas’ free fishing day will be on June 4.

If you already have a fishing license, consider taking a friend or family member who has never been fishing, out on the water for the day.

Anglers fishing at Lake Texoma should be aware that the free fishing days apply for all of the lake on June 6, but only on the Oklahoma portion of the lake on June 7. Texas offers one free fishing day, the first Saturday in June. Close to Home ponds are small bodies of water stocked with fish ensuring opportunities exist for anglers who may only have a little time on their hands and nowhere to go.
