Free Fishing Weekend in Kentucky

Along with Free Fishing Weekend, the city of Pikeville played host to the eighth-annual Fishing With Kids event. The event’s founder, Chad Webb, said the weekend is a great way for anglers of all ages to test out their new rods and reels without having to buy a license. Please note that the individual states may place certain restrictions and other regulations may apply, so be sure to contact your state fish and wildlife agency for specific state regulations.

Get started fishing today, purchase your fishing license online, check regulations and more. Fishing licenses or a trout permits are not required, but people are asked to follow the size and number limits by species of fish that are chosen to be kept. Public fishing at National Forest locations will not be permitted at derby locations from the day that fish are stocked until the end of the event. To help celebrate family fishing, several Kentucky communities are offering special free fishing events for kids on Saturday, June 4, the release said. Free fishing days are a perfect opportunity for beginners to try out fishing for the first time. If you already have a fishing license, thank you for your purchase and for doing your part to support the efforts of your state fish and wildlife agency to make great fishing for current and future generations. Please also consider taking a friend or family member who has never been fishing, out on the water for the day.

Sure, we catch stuff sometimes but a lot of times, we don’t. The kids still love it because they feel so proud when they actually do catch something. But, they have learned it takes time, it takes patience, and it’s ok if they don’t catch anything because we can try again.

Every year Kentucky offers free fishing days the first weekend in June (June 4-5, 2022). On free fishing days no license is required of residents or non-residents to fish any Kentucky waters. Free fishing days are offered to promote fishing and National Fishing Week. Kentucky is once again offering free fishing days this year. On June 4th and 5th, 2022, anyone can fish without license or trout permit anywhere in Kentucky. This includes all residents and non-residents and all ages.
