Ugly break in a Graphite rod ..is it fixable Rod Building and Tackle Tinkering
Sometimes the break will happen farther down the rod near the first guide. Your only option is to cut the first guide off and make that the new tip. This will ultimately shorten the rod and will decrease the sensitivity you have come to know while using it. This is a quick fix though and is sufficient for keeping the health of your fishing rod. If the break occurs any lower you will need to go to our next fishing rod tip. When your two hundred dollar fishing rod breaks do not freak out.
Below we have attached a great video that walks you through this process step by step. One of the easiest ways to fix your rod is with super glue or hot glue. You’re going to use the same rod tip that was initially on the rod. The first step is to remove the tip from the rod blank. Once this is finished, it should slide on the tip of the broken part of the rod making the new tip. Add hot glue or super glue to the rod and place the tip on it.
Would have to see it better, but not sure I would spend much effort trimming the broken ends. Thank you for the input…but if the general consensus is that it can be fixed, I will be seeking someone who has the skill. I am a clumsy oaf…not the clumsy oaf who broke the rod, but… We know this has been a long and tiring project but that feeling when the rod is finally repaired after putting in so much hard work is priceless. We have come a long way from a busted rod to a pretty good fix that may not look as beautiful as a machine finish but certainly works well. Do not worry about it being in excess as excess is what we want.
Nothing is more annoying if you’re out ice fishing than having your hole freeze back over. Vegetable oil is a standard option to use in the ice fishing hole to prevent it from… We will use those once we put the dowel in the place to make sure we line the rod up perfectly as it was before it broke. It is then we would sand it down and smooth it out before we do our wrap over the top of that. Our method to salvage this rod will only result in the loss of a tiny bit of sensitivity but the rod will remain to be perfectly usable. One of the things we do not want to do is take a hacksaw and cut the rod down as a part of the repair process.
